One-page summary

The AIOS operating model

A business becomes AI-native by adopting this model — rebuilding how work gets done around AI rather than bolting AI onto old workflows. This page is the condensed structure you can cite and share; the book is the practitioner guide that walks the whole path.

What AIOS is

The methodology for becoming AI-native

AIOS — the Artificially Intelligent Operating System — is not a software product. It is a methodology and mental model: AI stops being an app you open and becomes the operating system your work runs on, for a company, a team, and you. The product is the model; the book is its manual.

The threshold

From using AI to being organized around it

Being AI-native means rebuilding how work gets done around AI rather than bolting AI onto existing workflows. The AI-Native Test is three questions — three yeses means AI-native; any no means you’re still AI-assisted, and you know which layer to fix.

  1. 1Can an agent find the context it needs?
  2. 2Can it produce finished work to your standard?
  3. 3Does what it learns persist for next time?

The maturity ladder

Four rungs. One of them changes everything.

Gains don’t just get bigger as you climb — they change kind. The jump from Operator to AI Native is the difference between a faster horse and a car.

Rung 1

Tourist

Curious. Occasional prompts. Anecdotes, not results.

Rung 2

Experimenter

Regular but ad hoc. 10–15% on scattered tasks.

Rung 3

Operator

Redesigned workflows. 25–40% where it counts.

Rung 4

AI Native

40–70% on suitable tasks — plus work that didn't exist before.

The system

Everything the model teaches, in eight moves

A navigation system, not a linear plan. Start anywhere — each pillar stands alone and links to the next.

The BASIC Stack

Five layers. No data science team required.

Assembled in order, each layer answers one question. It is not a product to buy — it is a decision to treat AI as an operating system.

B

Brain

Can agents see my company?

A

Assistants

What intelligence am I deploying?

S

Skills

Can agents produce work to my standard?

I

Interface

Can agents act where the work happens?

C

Controls

Is this safe, and does everyone improve?
